Mission Style Lighting

Many log home and log cabin owners choose mission-style lighting for homes. There are many lighting websites out there. I came across TheBrightSpot.com . Their site contains indoor and outdoor lighting in Mission and other styles. I like their selection. Nice work.

Hamill Creek Timber Homes Story- Part 1

Hamill Creek Timber Homes

I saw Hamill Creek Timber Home’s large back cover advertisement in the current issue of Timber Home Living Magazine. If you get a chance to see the ad, you have to check out the gorgeous and well-lit timber frame that they built.
I contacted Steve Hoffart at Hamill Creek (steve-AT-hamillcreek.com) and he shared the story of Hamill Creek. Here is part one of their story.
Hamill Creek Timber Homes began designing and crafting timber frame homes in 1989, we have since grown to employ over 45 people and have shared our homes all over the world. A small group of craftsman joined Dwight Smith, and his wife Debbie, in a small workshop behind their home to form Hamill Creek Timber Homes. This was the realization of a passion for timber frame that Dwight had discovered only a few miles from our current production site while working on his first timber frame home. He had realized that this ancient type of construction was a form of art and a way of life.
The location of Hamill Creek could not better reflect the style; situated in the Southern Interior of British Columbia, Hamill Creek combines the lifestyle of this unique natural paradise with ideal proximity to the one of the industry’s largest supply areas.”

I’ll be sharing more of their story soon. In the meantime, feel free to visit their site at www.HamillCreek.com

Rustic Log Originals

Have you ever want to make your own log furniture? It’s fun to do. I created my first log bed out of standing dead aspens that I gathered from the Foothills near Denver. I hand selected each log. I brought back more logs than I needed but that’s normal. Then came the sanding, making the tenons, making the cuts and fitting everything together. It was a great weekend project.

I took a look at Rustic Log Originals’ website – www.rusticlogoriginals.com. They created and sell a DVD titled “Design and Craft your own Rustic Log Bed”.

The DVD covers:
• Selecting the right trees
• Removing the bark
• Making the cuts
• Mortise and tenon joints
• Creating & assembling the headboard, foot board and attaching side rails
• Applying a finish to the logs

When you go to their site, there is a video sample on the main page. The video quality looks great so I imagine that their DVD has the same quality.

If you decide to build your own log bed, you’ll enjoy creating it and you can take a nap after it’s complete!
